The application is written/made in connection with the development of a strategy for internationalization in the daycare area in Hjoerring Municipality. The work with internationalization is amongst other things part of the strategy for learning through multimedia in the municipality. Hereby we hope to obtain an increased focus on children and adults’ use of technology and on inclusion and internationalization in the daycare area.
In Hjoerring Municipality we work under the understnading that technology, media and digital education brings the learning of the future into the daycare area. Through use of new media like iPads, tablets and other gadgets children are invited to join in on cocreational learning processes.
That means that both children and educators in co-operation can explore and experiment with learning through media and different kinds of digital stories.
The use of digital media opens up to new and different approaches to learning which would not be possible without the use of technology. Thus the focus on ICT, media and digital education is about letting children, through interaction with the educators, learn to use the digital media actively and creatively instead of using them as passive consumers through gaming.
In connection with this we believe that we can inspire but also be inspired through an international cooperation on the eTwinning platform. To us, the reason for an international cooperation is that we work towards the following understanding of our curriculum work in a media context:
Where am I in the world? Who am I in this meeting?
What are we interested in exploring with others?
How can we use and benefit from our own and others people’s ways of life in different cultures?
How can technology and nature be combined?
How do we communicate through pictures, body, speech, stories and play?
How can we be present with our body in a digital society?
This is due to an understading that our daycares/kindergardens are also part of an international society, and that is requires intercultural competencies and understanding to live in the globalized world. Therefore we find these qualities hard to live without, both now and in the future.
The intention is, that initially one representative from five different institutions create a profile on eTwinning. When these representatives/institutions are well-established on the eTwinning platform and have cooperated internationally, their job is to be ambassadors in Hjoerring Municipality and train new representatives from five new institutions. This process is intended to take place once more so during the 24 months of the project, we hope to attain 15 eTwinning institutions.
In the long term we hope to prepare and equip the educators to the curriculum work in a globalized society and to provide them with a growing understanding of, what it means to be a child anno 2015 and what this means to the development of our daycare offer.
We also aim at giving the educators a professionally stronger ability to meet the changing demands and expectations that they are met with.
