This youth exchange was a continuous project to one of our previous youth exchange projects about volunteerism. With the first exchange project “Volunteer. To be or not to be?” our aim was reached, but this time we planned to achieve bigger impact, sustainable result and involve much more young people, because care of environment in the region of Pogoni and in Epirus region in general is not near to the level we would like to see it and volunteerism is still not that much discovered and practiced. One of objectives of our project was to exchange experiences, good practices and create new ideas about volunteerism to develop rural areas and to take care of environment among many young people. Another very important objective of our project was to take care of environment of Epirus and to develop the rural area of Pogoni region and to promote our idea among the community of our region. Third objective of our project was to develop a sustainable collaboration between involved youth groups / organizations. Fourth objective of our project was to discover and share cultural similarities and differences of involved partner countries, in order to promote intercultural learning among young people. In our project participated 28 participants that were interested and motivated to learn, to be volunteers and were willing to popularize the idea of volunteerism, to care about development of rural areas. We involved in our project 15 participants that were coming from rural areas and the rest of the participants were young people who feel a need for a social change towards volunteerism, care of environment and rural areas, young people that feel the need to change their own attitude towards volunteerism and care about environment and rural areas, also young people that feel a need for learning, for new experiences, for new knowledge and skills, for being creative and active in order to become more employable. Main activities and working methods in this project were group works, discussions, interactive presentations, different kind of well-organized group voluntary works (cleaning of 2 different areas, painting of a local school, paper collecting for recycling, drawing and making wooden signs and restaurating a natural path in the forest), watching of movies, simulation game, drawing, writing, theater, games to increase team spirit, creation and distribution of flyers and postcards about volunteerism and care of environment, interactive presentations about participants home countries, educational excursions. Involved organizations gained new experiences and motivation to pay attention to environmental issues and development of rural areas even more. Participants gained better attitudes related to volunteerism, especially to volunteerism for development of rural areas and tackling environmental issues. Participants realized some of their own ideas of volunteerism after the project and some young people of the local communities got involved in volunteerism actions of our project and learn more about the meaning of volunteering. We believe that the care of environment became a bigger priority of the local communities involved in the project, because they did notice the results of volunteerism actions of our project.
