SPAGHETTI STRATEGY What is a spaghetti by oneself? Just a tiny thing; but it has a ability no one else has: It can create connections with other spaghetti producing a universal dish we all love.What an isolated teacher’s work? A poor spaghetti keeped back from other poor spaghetti.IES Leonardo da Vinci of Alicante is a public center with a solid academic and high quality academic offer in vocational training students coming from a wide territorial area. It also provides secondary education for students from the district of the north of Alicante city. On this level the influence of a disadvantaged social background is relevant. Extensive highlights problems, lack of motivation and family support, poor school performance, early school leaving, coexistence problems, bullying and intolerance or cultural clashes between different ethnic groups are our day by day.In this troubled environment, our secondary teachers (led by a group of 10) are starting a training program in which the main idea is to add forces (training = spaghetti) from different areas in order to cover needs to improve quality teaching secondary´s first cycle.Our project is built from 8 training periods making two pillars we believe may minimize the problems we have identified:- Search for new methodologies and strategies to curb school failure, early school leavers and disciplinary problems rising from school violence, intolerance and harassment. We will conduct leadership training, inclusion and diversity.- CLIL training teachers to incorporate a multilingual project in 1st and 2nd of ESO in 2018, ensuring the highest quality educational offer, motivation and bringing us closer to Europe.From these training trips we establish connection between teachers (a good spaghetti recipe) generating seminars and training workshops for other teachers, innovative classroom activities, educational guides and materials for the various departments of that level.A new working way will produce main impact of the project at the Center: a collaborative teaching work, moved by a real and systematic cooperation (the sauce will definitely join our spaghetti).From this training learning´s stays we pretend to be more competent to apply innovative methodologies, to be able to lead our most disadvantaged students, to find motivating strategies for them promoting the use of ICT, to help them solve self-control troubles (intolerance and harassment) opening our minds to Europe through the introduction of a foreign language in non-language subjects.
