The importance of digital skills for both social inclusion and employability has been made an high priority by the European Commission, hence several initiative such as Digital Agenda, Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs, Eskills for jobs campaign, EU Code Week and reinforced in the recently published “Eskills Manifesto”. Equipping citizen from all background with relevant digital skills is a responsibility shared between governments, industry, academia, and individuals. Youngsters, often called digital natives are most concerned. They are regular users of technology but research shows that they often not have the relevant skills to be savvy or competent users. Furthermore as youth unemployment is a major issue all other Europe, mastering these skills is becoming critical to fill the huge gap created by the digital revolution.Fighting digital illiteracy is becoming crucial to reduce risks of social and economic exclusion created by the digital skill gap.Involving volunteers is an interesting way to contribute to reducing this major issue of today world. Volunteers can teach, show and tell but also inspire, motivate and therefore bring a different outlook than the one in provided in formal education. However if working with volunteers is also a way to reduce cost of implementing activities and tapping into a network of non-professional trainers, this does not mean that this strategy is resources-free for organisations.With lot of new players on the field of youth work in digital education and the arrivals of a large pool of highly motivated volunteers by the cause new opportunities and challenges our have been identified for capacity building and improvement of youth work quality.Education is the tool used by eSkills for Volunteers (EFV) project, not only to contribute to training and to foster digital skills, but also to promote social inclusion, tolerance, respect for diversity and non-discrimination. Our main objective is:-To reinforce ICT digital knowledge/literacy in order to reinforce social inclusion give and uniform the basis of work of ICT-active organisations, sharing best practices, understanding better the relation with volunteers, and better preparing youth workers and volunteers engaged in this field to improve the expected impacts, according to the European objectives.The specific objectives to achieve or goals are:-To empower youth workers and volunteers to fully exploit all the potentials of digital education and digital skills.- To give the possibility to NGOs to count on volunteers/young ICT experts.- To establish an innovative way of learning by using Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) methodologies and virtual collaboration;-To compose a set of learning materials as open educational resources (OER);-To strengthen formal and non-formal learning for young people across Europe;- To foster inclusive education. Target groups are:-Youth workers;-Youth volunteers.This project is innovative in developing learning material to improve leadership thanks to volunteers (amongst ICT practitioners and e-leaders) who have a knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm to share to fight the digital divide.The expected outcome is to improve quality of awareness raising activities and also encouraging young talents especially from diverse, fewer opportunities /disadvantaged backgrounds.EFV includes the following activities:- A extensive research based on real needs of organisation and volunteers involved in digital education.- A training activity for youth workers / volunteers.- An Open Online Course with video material available to those wishing to develop and improve their skills and practices in managing volunteers in the non-formal digital education space.- A European report available to all stakeholders and interested parties to give a clear overview on the current challenges and opportunities as well as demonstrating project results, study case and best practices in the field.The outputs will specifically focus on matters such as recruitment, communication, retention, conflict management and rewards for volunteers in the field of digital education.PROJUVEN aims to create a strong impact on organisations involved in digital education, their staff, their volunteers, the young learners and their communities and all together amplify awareness raising around the topic of digital skills.
