As a headmaster I believe that the European dimension has become an increasingly important aspect in view of quality improvement in our institution. In order to increase the competitiveness of our school within the borough we have to get close to Europe and open ourselves to other nations, especially through international projects. We have to enrich our educational offer by introducing a new foreign language and by introducing elements of the English language in other activities than standard English lessons, namely by involving our students in international projects.
To achieve the above mentioned aims, it has been planned that 6 out of 14 schoolteachers will take part in Erasmus + in case our institution succeeds in receiving the grant. These are the teachers representing all educational levels in our school, from kindergarten to 6- graders. Among the employees selected for teacher’s mobility we can distinguish: a teacher of English, a pre-pimary school teacher and four primary school teachers.
The teacher of English will participate in the course covering ICT tools and language teaching methods involving the use of ICT in Malta and, in the Italian language course in Italy, which will be preceded by both individual initiatives to master that language and a preparatory course in Poland. The remaining teachers will take part in preparatory language courses in Poland followed by language courses abroad. Then, after being able to communicate in English, all of them will participate in specialized courses conducted in English. They will enable them to look at educational process from a completely new perspective.
All the participants will obtain logistic and practical support from the school coordinator appointed by the headmaster. Evaluation process and dissemination activities are expected to take place during and at the end of the project.
It is expected that the project will result in long-term benefits and that it will have impact reaching beyond the institution. The following are the most important outcomes of the project:
-developing inter-cultural competences and consciousness among the project participants, which will be passed on their students
- increasing pedagogical competences of teachers
- 2- and 3- graders will be supported by their form masters in learning English
- the school will get teachers who will be able to communicate in English
- incorporating ICT skills and knowledge, which will make lessons more attractive
- encouraging other schools in the borough to participate in similar activities (we will share our experiences)
- improvement of quality in our institution
- the European dimension of our school
- teachers’ mobility will provide solid foundations for international projects
- an increase in competitiveness of our school due to introduction of elements of the English language into activities other than English lessons (European projects) and due to the introduction of the second foreign language
- an increase in students’ motivation for learning foreign languages
- an increase in students’ interest in educational mobility e. g. to other European countries
- introduction of innovative methods and techniques of teaching used in other countries of EU.
