Equal Treatment and Non-Discrimination Law in the European Union

The present proposal is conceived as an opportunity to respond to the increasing interest on a new subject matter in our organisation – Equality principle and EU Antidiscrimination Law -, and to contribute to the objectives set by the EU itself, since providing the citizens with information is the key to guarantee them a full possession of their fundamental rights and to encourage their active participation in the European society. This project aims to reinforce the contribution of lifelong learning to social cohesion, active citizenship, intercultural dialogue, gender equality and fight aganist racism and xenophobia. Our objectives are:1. The strengthening of the knowledge, critical reflection and discussion on a new subject matter – EU Antidiscrimination Law -, among the University students at the civil society in Alicante, include adult education. This proposal aims to contribute to increased participation in lifelong learning by people of all ages, including those with special needs and disadvantaged groups.2. The promotion of the knowledge of Equal Treatment and Non-Discrimination issues as fundamental right in the EU, providing information on Anti-Discriminatory legislation developed by the EU from a multidisciplinary approach. This project addresses to reinforce the role of lifelong learning in creating a sense of European citizenship based on understanding and respect of human rights and diversity, and encouraging tolerance and respect for other peoples and cultures.3. The development of a quality lifelong learning educational programme, through the use of practical and innovative teaching methods. This proposal addresses to develop the students analytical skills and ability to apply Anti-Discrimination Law in everyday professional practice. This proposal includes the production educational materials freely available.4. The consolidation of a group of lectures and researchers specialized in European studies based on excellence.
