Environmentally friendly water management in plain areas (eWAM)
Date du début: 31 janv. 2013, Date de fin: 30 juil. 2014 PROJET  TERMINÉ

River of Jegricka and Kurca stream is permanently influenced with the pollutants from the agricultural lands and settlements, therefore a low water flow rates were observed and the water quality is decreased.Bearing this in mind, the project aims at improving cooperation and monitoring in water management in AP Vojvodina and Csongrad County.Specific objectives: 1.Improvement of the watercourse of Jegrička River and Kurca Stream in the cross-border region by dredging and removal of sludge and excess vegetation from the riverbed 2.Development of joint monitoring and analysis system in order to prevent flooding in the cross-border region 3. Preservation of the biodiversity of Jegrička River and Kurca Stream by water quality improvement. Several results will be achieved: 1.A part of the watercourse of Jegrička River and Kurca Stream purified from excess vegetation and sludge 2. Flood prevention achieved 3. Accomplished monitoring of water quality and sludge performed in chosen localities before and after the project in compliance with Article 8 of the Water Framework Directive, 4.Experience in monitoring between Serbian and Hungarian partners exchanged 5. Joint data base created as a basis for experience exchange and future cooperation. The project supports, through its activities, creation of a sustainable and safe environment in the cross-border region by prevention of flood and resurrecting old water surfaces which is in line with the the Programme’s overall aim. The main activities are: dredging river of Jegricka (from km 44+015 to km 37+892),monitoring of water quality in Jegricka, dredging canal Kurca(from 1+857 km to 4+750 km),monitoring of water quality in canal Kurca, visibility, software solution with website and project management. The duration of the project will be 18 months. The targets groups are: farmers, population in flood risk areas, institutions involved in water management, tourism organizations. Achievements: The Jegricka River and the Kurca Stream are constantly affected by pollutants from agricultural lands and surrounding settlements. As a result, low water flow rates were observed and the quality of water has deteriorated. With this in mind, the project aimed to improve cooperation and monitoring in the area of water management in AP Vojvodina (Serbia) and Csongrád County (Hungary). The three organisations formed a cross-border partnership to improve the watercourse of the Jegricka River and the Kurca Stream in the cross-border region by dredging and removing the sludge and excess vegetation from the riverbed, develop a joint monitoring and analysis system in order to prevent flooding in the cross-border region and preserve the biodiversity of the Jegricka River and the Kurca Stream by improving the water quality. In the course of the project a part of the watercourse of the Jegricka River (from 44+015 km to 37+892 km) and the Kurca Stream (from 1+857 km to 4+750 km) have been cleaned of excess vegetation and sludge, while flood prevention has been achieved. In compliance with Article 8 of the Water Framework Directive, monitoring of the quality of the water and sludge was performed in the chosen localities before and after the realisation of the project. The Hungarian and Serbian partners exchanged their experiences and results of monitoring. Finally, a joint database and software solution with a website was created as a platform for the exchange of experiences and future cooperation. Farmers, the populations in areas at risk of flooding, institutions involved in water management and tourist organisations from both countries benefited from the results of the project by gaining access to precise and timely information about potential flood risks.
