Entrepreneurial Learning in Art Education

The EL Art project activities has encouraged entrepreneurial learning, multidisciplinary cooperation and networking between different art fields in the Netherlands, Finland and Sweden. Secondary art education is mainly focusing on skills training where students get training within their own vocational art field. Employment situations in the cultural sector are limited and therefore the art field need an increase of entrepreneurial skills. The graduates often lack knowledge and experiences to implement their skills as professionals since they are not used to thinking as entrepreneurs. In EL Art the students were guided in how to become professionals who can influence their own working situation. The objectives were to strengthen and encourage art students and teachers knowledge and skills in the following areas through cooperation and workshop activities: • entrepreneurial learning• multidisciplinary cooperation• networking between countries and art fields• to form a link between the education and the work field• testing entrepreneurial learning tools and methodsAnother objective was to test entrepreneurial learning tools and methods within the secondary art education in the partner schools. The basic method used in EL Art was Estafette shaping a dialogue between the different art disciplines in order to establish a whole. Creating a multidisciplinary art project was the assignment that the students had to solve. The structure of the project was Idea, Concept, Design, Production and Marketing and the project activities were therefore divided into 4 stages. Entrepreneurial learning involved practical application of newfound skills and knowledge. It was about doing things and learning from practical experience.
