“Enter to Exit mode in Employability” was a training course addressed to youth workers and youth activists that was implemented in Larnaca, Cyprus between 21th to 28th of June and involved 31 participants and 4 staff consisting of trainers and support from 9 EU countries for 7 days of activities.
Soft skills as personal attributes that enhance a young people’s various qualities in terms of effective interactions and competitiveness in labor market were the main topics throughout the project.
The lack of quality employment opportunities influences an increasing number of young people with a significant threat of exclusion. The transition from education to labor market is becoming longer and more complex. Those with fewest skills or the fewest opportunities are most at risk. In need for wide – ranging efforts to seek solutions, entrepreneurial skills, such as management and leadership, communication and social skills or time management skills will be especially highlighted.
The TC was focused in exploring concrete soft skills, by contributing to building up young peoples knowledge and skills and by providing them a structured, yet creative approach. Working methods were those of non-formal education, which implicates creating a friendly and confident environment to stimulate the sharing and the process of learning from each other among the participants. Special emphasis was put on daily reflection and self assessment. Time was given to discuss about the tools used to recognize these skills, such as the Youthpass, that was also provided to all the participants as soon as the project was completed.
The main objectives of the training course were:
• to raise awareness among young people regarding the value of soft skills and entrepreneurial potential in order to be employable and competitive on the labor markets;
• to encourage young people to build networks working on youth employment and entrepreneurship, to strengthen links within youth sector so as to improve young people’s chances on the labor market;
• to promote the use of non-formal learning recognition tools, such as the Youthpass, and to develop recommendations to different subjects on the acknowledgment thereof;
• to contribute to achieving active participation of young people with fewer opportunities by promoting the inclusion of those who from one or more reasons are marginalized or discriminated against and who have little sense of engagement in society.
