Utalizing the opportunities offered through the program Erasmus+ is a complementary practice in our organization’s pre-existing effort to increase the quality, improve and modernize the offered educational services as well as to develop a European Dimension in education.
Taking into account the concern over the existing socioeconomic situation and the value crisis in Europe, has been created an imperative need to adapt to the constantly variable data and seek out mutual solutions together with European partners.
Our plan has a dual orientation. On one hand, the teachers’ –who will constitute communicants of our main goals -training and on the other hand the broadening of the knowledge and experiences of students on the latest European proceedings, as well as areas of social and individual field that they affect.
Regarding the first part, we aim to the training of the educational staff on issues of European integration, so as 1)to be able to contribute to the development of active citizens, 2) to become familiar with pedagogical techniques using new technologies so as to provide knowledge on contemporary European issues, 3) to promote children's creativity and organize activities related to the participation of Greece in the European Union.
This effort has already begun with 1) the financial support (wherever needed) and the encouragement of their participation in trainings and seminars with similar aims (for example “Europe at schools through art and stimulation”) 2) The familiarization and use of Information and Communication Technology programs, such as eTwinning 3) the participation of the school’s teaching community in the “Unesco Associated School Project Network” (ASPnet) and 4) the participation in the Eco-Schools programme promoted by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) (our school was awarded with the Eco–Schools “green flag”) and finally 5) the contact with the delegation of the European Committee in Greece for the providing of educational material (DvD) concerning the European union.
The three proposed teachers to participate were selected based on a combination of the following factors: their motivation, their skills and their knowledge. They will put these forward in order to carry out their roles in this program and to pass on their newly acquired knowledge and skill-set to the rest of the teaching community, as well as their students.
They will also try to create new teaching and educational material and tools for pupils, which will be shared with our partner schools. Furthermore, they will implement innovative teaching methods in Education, which contribute to addressing the educational challenges and utilize information and communication technologies (e.g. simulation exercises, digital educational comics etc.). Finally they will provide information to students about the development on a variety of European issues.
As far as pupils is concerned, they will realize the importance of active citizenship and the need for international collaboration in common problem solving processes, such as global warming, in-school violence etc.
The improved language skills of students and the culture of collaboration among them, as well as increased respect for diversity, will be the additional benefits of this project.
Focusing on modernizing the education project of our school, we will discuss possible changes in the structure of our school curriculum (without overlooking the national guidelines of course). This aims to enrich it with new topics or thematic areas in order to make it more interesting and useful in the long term for our students.
The ultimate and long term goal of our project is, through our teaching and learning process, to contribute financially, spiritually and culturally to our society.
