ENHSA III - European network of heads of schools of architecture: restructuring the european higher architectural education area

ENHSA III Thematic Network is an extended consortium of schools of architecture, academic associations, professional bodies and cultural foundations, which collaborate in order to contribute to the foundation and development of the European Higher Architectural Education Area. More specifically, the consortium will work towards the direction of the implementation of a competences-based architectural education in order to ensure more transparency, quality and mobility. In this particular approach, the consortium will incorporate in a coherent way issues related to the framework of qualifications and the descriptors of the relevant competences, the lifelong learning and the competences to be developed after and during the professional practice, the enhancement of the consciousness on sustainability as a fundamental learning outcome of the European Architect’s profile, and the development of research competences in undergraduate studies in order to enhance the research record of the schools. All these issues will be developed in depth and in the framework of distinctive workpackages, which will run in parallel and will be synthesized by two transversal packages. These will investigate the ways and the processes through which the above issues will influence the structure of competences-based architectural curricula and will direct the teaching towards new educational approaches and pedagogical strategies. The ENHSA Consortium will produce as outcome of its academic activities a series of publications on the themes of this Project and an extended number of workshops and conferences to which the academic world of architectural education will be invited to contribute. The Project will also develop pilot seminars in collaboration with the professional bodies for graduate architects and will implement an observatory for the research on architecture and architectural education. It will also develop synergies between the different packages in order to ensure a more efficient articulation and incorporation in the new proposed approach to the education of architects.
