We are a two form entry infant and pre-school in the heart of the market town Daventry in Northamptonshire with 207 children on role . At St James, we strongly believe that our role is to enable every child to learn to the best of their ability. To this end we provide a secure, stimulating and happy environment, where children feel safe and valued and are able to realise their full potential. We provide a creative, engaging curriculum which enriches every child’s learning and ensures the development of their self-esteem. Learning Friends/Bears underpin our values based curriculum, they help and encourage children to respect themselves and others which enable them to make a positive contribution to the school and society as a whole. We offer a welcoming, positive and enriching environment for children to learn in with additional spaces for activities includes Kaleidoscope Colour therapy, a fully equipped children's gym as well as a before and after school club. The number of children from ethnic backgrounds has increased in recent years, with many speaking English as an additional language. The number of vulnerable groups within the school has also increased wit 45% of children living in socially deprived areas; many in social housing. The school also experiences a high level of pupils' mobility due to the recent changes to the feeder junior school. We are keen to provide our children with engaging opportunities which will help them develop and achieve well. We therefore believe that this opportunity would allow us to build on this and expand our links in Europe, enabling us to learn from other countries practice with regards to raising attainment for vulnerable pupils and improving teaching in maths. The projects chosen for our participation as a school reflect our school's development plan, individual targets of participants and the ethos of our school. We aim to add a European element to our school development and will be working with other schools in our alliance to achieve this. The project objectives are:* Improving teaching and learning by raising staff expertise and competences within a European context* Developing links to enhance provision* Develop expertise and skills to deal with social, cultural, linguistic diversitydevelop staff ability to deal with an increasing migrant community* Improving outcomes by developing new learning methods and strategies* Develop innovative approaches to teaching and learning in maths * Enhance strategies to develop children's wellbeing and positive mental health* Learn from observation of other practice in Europe* Supporting children and families in the community, raising the attainment of vulnerable groups, measuring, monitoring and recording a baseline for the well-being of pupils. * improve home/school links and practical ideas of how to apply this. Our methodology to achieve our aims that of participation in structured training courses abroad, Belgium and Sweden. We have chosen two enthusiastic and motivated participants who are relatively new to both the profession and our school, who are keen to develop their subject knowledge, pedagogical approaches and leadership roles. Their are keen and proved themselves to be excellent and motivated to lead change in practiceOur envisaged impact of involvement in these projects is that upon return participants will be able to implement new practices in improving the well-being of pupils in order to raise overall standards and attainment. It is also hoped that through gaining a greater understanding of mindfulness and alleviating stress and anxiety we can supplement our Kaleidoscope programme to benefit all stakeholders, in particular those pupils from deprived backgrounds. We hope that the knowledge and skills gained through observation of best practice of mathematics teaching will allow us to implement new teaching styles to address the demands of the new curriculum and promote progress and raise attainment to support pupils in meeting their age related expectations. The impact of the project will extend beyond our schools, staff and pupils as we plan to share our practice and experience
