Enhancement and promotion of ceramic art as a cultural and historical feature shared between Crete and Cyprus

Desiring to promote other aspects of its social, economic and cultural mission, Iraklion Chamber of Commerce has taken the initiative to submit this proposal in an attempt to mobilise interested local bodies connected in some way with the results of the project so that they can used more effectively for the benefit of the two communities and their residents participating in the proposal.The aim of this proposal is to promote the shared characteristics of both regions and peoples in the art of ceramics and, in particular, in urn-making and earthenware products (vessels, earthen utensils, etc), to attempt to record and present them through modern means, information technology and the internet. These characteristics, which have survived to this date, will be promoted, preserved and projected in time so that they are preserved and reveal those parameters making up the historical and cultural identity of the two countries. Expected Results: The final deliverables of the project will be used as tools for cultural development and alternative tourism promotion, as well as for educative purposes. The DVDs containing the historical development of ceramics and urn-making, especially in Crete and in Cyprus, or for example the book containing historical and cultural information, will be distributed to educational institutions and cultural bodies to use and put to advantage the valuable information contained in them.
