English and Culture: A Course of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language
Date du début: 1 juin 2015, Date de fin: 31 mai 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Our school has two participants for the Erasmus+ project. Participant 1 is a teacher of English and would like to do a course at Trinity College Dublin: "English and Culture; A Course for Teachers of English as a Foreign Language". This course aims to meet the needs of teachers of English as a Foreign Language by developing their language competence in English through an Irish cultural framework. The objectives of the programme are: 1. To improve participant's communicative competence in English. 2. To encourage participants to incorporate cultural resources in their classroom practice. 3. To promote links and partnerships within the European Dimension in education. Spending two weeks with colleagues from many different countries in (and outside of) Europe will enhance her understanding of other cultures. She will be able to spread the new ideas and knowledge to her students. She might even set up an international project with a partner school in Europe, as she has done before (2007/2008: international chat-/e-mail project with a Grammar School in the Czech Republic, Klasterec). She will provide feedback on the outcomes of the training and the new knowledge she has acquired to her fellow colleagues from the English Department at our school. Next, she intends to organise a workshop about her new skills and knowledge, so her colleagues will benefit from this. Her colleagues from the German and the French Department may also be interested in participating in similar Teacher Refreshment Courses, when they see the benefits from a course like this. Participant 2 is a teacher of English Literature who is interested in "Teaching Literature in the Classroom " course. Its objectives are to explore ways to inspire and motivate students, to familiarize course participants with Irish, British and American Literature, and explore methods of teaching this in the classroom. Another important objective is to stimulate students' awareness of contemporary Ireland.
