Englischunterricht: Förderung der Sprach- und Methodenkompetenz

The vocational college G15 in Hamburg pursues clear quality goals for competence and methodology. But we have some needs in the area of language teaching: because of the age structure of our school staff there are some colleagues, who didn't study the subject they have been teaching for years. These colleagues will get the chance through this further education, to use language in an authentic environment, so to gain more confidence and to learn some creative methodology. The project is planned for two years, and four colleagues have agreed to take part in it, all of them successful colleagues in their field of vocational training. They need some support in language usage and training of new teaching methods in language teaching. For this we plan to use ERASMUS for the execution of language courses, one or two weeks long, in the United Kingdom or Ireland; we leave the decision of the duration with the colleagues. The appropriate courses have not been selected yet, as the information about the school education gateway reached us at the fair didacta on the 27 Feb 2015. The start of the spring break on 2 Mar made it impossible to get the colleagues together. The colleagues will choose the courses according to their individual needs and the times given by the school management. The colleagues will travel alone, not together with the second colleague, to get the full effect of using authentic language.
Colleagues with some experience with COMENIUS told about their experience with courses in an English speaking country and the positive effects of such an experience: bathing in the foreign language, the exchange with colleagues of other European countries, the fun of the relaxed work, the experience with another culture, close to the own but still different. All in all this states: this kind of further education really helps and improves the work, in many aspects, and will have a great impact on the language teaching. And with this the achiement of better quality in teaching and methodology.
