Engels curriculum op de Eilanden
Date du début: 1 juin 2015, Date de fin: 31 mai 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Our organisation wants to greatly improve the level at which we teach English to the children. To be able to do this it is essential that both the language skills of the teachers and the teaching tools that are used in the classroom are improved sufficiently. In the school year 2013-2014 the project has started in the lower grades (4-6 year olds). In 2014-2015 our 6-12 year olds have started slowly. The first year is an experimental and development year, teachers will try out activities in the classroom and with this information a lesson program wil be developed. In 2015-2016 we will start working with the developed lesson program. At that moment it is very important that the teachers involved (the teachers of the age groups 6-9 and 9-12) will get a suitable teacher training. Twelve teachers (one from every class) will do a training in England, just like the teachers of the 4-6 year olds did in school year 2014-2015. The training consists of a week at Pilgrims English Language Centre in Canterbury, where the participants will attend the course 'Methodology and Language for Primary Teachers'. At the end of school year 2015-2016, we aim to have all children learn English (either passively or actively) for at least one hour a week. In the following years, this could be elaborated for the higher classes. When teachers feel more confident in teaching English, CLIL activities and cooperation activities with schools from other countries could be started up. The latter is especially interesting for the children between 9 and 12 years old, but all children of the school will get a more international look at the world. With their improved language skills the children are better able to communicate with children from other countries and this will make it more valuable. They also get a better preparation before they go to secondary school. We notice that sometimes the children have trouble keeping up with the starting level.
