Virgen de la Rosa school is undergoing a renewal of its identity. The new educational proposal is inspired by the principles of Humanism, addressing five axis represented by the Vitruvian man.
This figure symbolizes our project today aimed at the training of men and women who can approach the ideal of knowledge and character, which define a full existence and a successful journey through life.
Throughout the educational process, our school makes explicit reference to certain fundamental values, developed through the axes of culture, solidarity, initiative, nature and socialization. We want to foster admiration, scientific spirit, sensitiveness, transcendence, experimentation, cooperation, diversity, innovation, teamwork, emotional skills.
The renewal process raises training needs for the teaching team to cover all aspects of the educational proposal of the centre. Besides, being a bilingual school, we face new challenges daily in the teaching of new contents in a language which is not the mother tongue for most of our teachers.
The process of learning requires constant renewal and, being aware of it, the school managing board believe we are in the need of improving our teaching skills in all disciplines, and even more, those which are involved within the plan of bilingualism.
Students will benefit from their teachers’ training, since new teaching techniques are designed to capture the attention of nowadays students. Children are more and more stimulated every day and, therefore, it is more difficult to transmit knowledge without being innovative in teaching techniques.
We have selected activities of teaching innovation in:
- Teaching through multiple intelligences. Teaching must adapt to the way every individual learns, and not all the children learn in the same way, depending on which is their more developed intelligence. Teaching through this method will help us reach all our students, each of them with their special needs. Our centre has developed a project for teaching maths through multiple intelligences, this year, in collaboration with the University of Burgos. This project has developed successfully.
- Teaching using technologies, including mobile technology and tablets. Virgen de la Rosa was one of the first schools to start Red XXI project. Now that this programme is not active anymore, we want to continue with the philosophy of that project and teach our students within a technological environment, including mobile apps, which will help us have more motivated students and keep their attention.
- How to teach CLIL (Content Language Integrated Learning). Both in Primary and Secondary Education. If the aims in our bilingual project are reached, our students will finish their training in 4th ESO with an upper intermediate English level, B2. For the fulfilment of this target, it is necessary that our CLIL lessons are developed using the most innovative and appropriate methodology.
-Dealing with difficult learners. Virgen de la Rosa school wants to keep the best of social environments. In order to do so, within the Quality Plan of the school, a programme of School Mediation was created, and was awarded the Highest Quality Practices Prize by the Junta de Castilla y León. This year, the plan has been reopened with the training of new mediators. Sometimes, mediation is not enough to solve conflicts, and teachers have to know the best strategies to deal with difficult learners, in all educational levels.
The training activities have been chosen for specific teachers’ profiles. The selections of the teachers participating in each mobility have been done in a democratic way and with everyone’s agreement. Participating teachers will reflect their new knowledge and skills into the rest of their workmates and all of them into their teaching duties.
All this will be recorded in the innovation section of the annual general programme of our centre.
Disseminating activities will be carried out, and the impact is expected to be relevant in the teaching community, and also in the local community.
Assessment activities have been programmed to be taken in short, medium and long term basis. They will allow the teaching team to check to what extent the programmed aims have been achieved, and from that, start designing new training plans.
