Empowering Young Ukrainian Journalists

The aim of the project was to support and motivate young Ukrainian journalists to develop active approach, civic engagement within the building a free, independent informational space in Ukraine. The main activity was the short term internship in the Czech Republic that enabled to strengthen professional competences, capacity to implement their own ideas and bring other young people as volunteers to the activities of local independent media in Ukraine. Last but not least, the project also aimed at mutual networking of Ukrainian journalists with Czech media, NGOs and young initiatives, in order to share good practices and enable the transfer of experience to the local context. The project reacted to current problems of Ukrainian society, especially the lack of solid information across the regions and low level of civic activism. The final shape of the project was build on particular needs of the participants, established on the basis of cooperation with the partner organization Public TV Cherkasy. The participants were 10 young people/journalists/activists (9 from Ukraine, 1 from the Czech Republic), who have decided to rebuild the Ukrainian civil society through the independent media and own participation. The internship included numerous expert trainings on journalism, workshops supporting civic engagement, networking and meetings with NGOs, Czech media, volunteers and active youth. The impact of the project was focused mainly at the personal and professional development of the participants, thus enabling to increase the quality of independent media in Ukraine and the level of civic participation. The project also supported the partner organizations in building their strategic partnership in the area of civil society and independent media development.
