Date du début: 1 mai 2015, Date de fin: 31 juil. 2015 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Empowering young farmers- A pillar of Europe 2050 In the context of the Presidency of Luxembourg of the European Council in the second part of the year 2015, the Luxembourgish rural youth and young farmer organisation "Lëtzebuerger Jongbaueren a Jongwënzer" has invited their European colleagues for a young farmer seminar in the region of Ettelbruck. This seminar took place in the beginning of July (1-3 July 2015) in the context of the agricultural trade fair in Ettelbruck. The objective of our project was to bring together young farmers of Europe to discuss the needs of the European young farmers and future farmers together with political stakeholders and to present a position to the responsible political agencies. 40 participants representing different young farmer’s organisations of Europe which are all member of the European organisation CEJA (Conseil européen des jeunes agriculteurs) participated in the 3 day seminar. These participants are all practicing farmers who know the common agricultural policy very good. They have an experience in discussing political topics and formulate political position papers. In addition to the European participants around 80 regional and Luxembourgish persons (young farmers, political decision makers, farmer representatives,..)participated in a conference of the seminar. The seminar started with a CEJA working group where current political topics were discussed with the members of the different young farmer’s organisations. A position paper (Young farmer Manifesto) was prepared during this working group. This paper was presented only presented to the politcal stakeholders at the EXPO of Milan in September. After the working group the young people were received by the Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg and discussed with him the current matters in agriculture. A meeting during a lunch with MEP Charles Goerens followed the reception with the Grand Duke. The main event of the seminar was the young farmer conference on the 2nd July with more than 150 participants. The conference was consisted of 3 discussion panels. In the fist panel different experst on globailsation presented their view on how globalisation can be a chance for the EU agriculture. After their presentations they discussed with room. The second panel started with a start-up presentation about EU agricultural politics in 2030/2050. After that, a panel discussion with different politcal stakeholders was hold on stage. All the guests in the room then had the possibility to ask questions and to participate in the very fruitfull discussions. The conference ended with a presentation of different young farmer projects in communication. In the evening an official dinner in presence of tha main conference guests took place. Participants had a loot of informal discussions with the political stakeholders. The last day of the seminar the participants visited a farm in Reuler (dairyfarm with biogas) and learned more about the regional agricultural production system in Luxemborug. The guests then visited the agricultural trade fair of Ettelbruck. In the afternoon an exchange with the EU comissioner for agriculture Phil Hogan took place. During this exchange the young people had the possibility to present their questions and concerns to Mr. Hogan. The CEJA delegation then participated in the opening ceremony where the main results of the seminar were presented. With this seminar we have sensitized the European and mainly the Luxembourgish decision makers to the problems and needs of the future EU farmers. In different meetings with the Luxembourgish ministery of Agriculture following the seminar we used the results of it. CEJA presented the young farmer Manifesto in Milan in September 2015. Thanks to a good presence in the daily media (Wort, Revue, RTL,...) our concerns could also be presented to the Luxembourgish citizens. This incresed the acceptance of Luxembourgish population of the work and needs of the young farmers. .
