EUCivic aims to deepen and widen the reflection on democracy and European civic education (ECE), disseminating at national level the ECE educational and research work promoted by SSSUP in the past few years, successfully involving thousands of beneficiaries (mainly students, teachers, researchers and civil society associations) in Tuscany. EUCivic will focus on the debate on democracy and EU institutions. EUCivic will exploit and disseminate the deliverables and outcomes of previous "Learning EU at school" projects: Multimedia didactic material (slides, outlines, and also short video clips); the ECE Newsletter and other online tools with nationwide diffusion; and our original European communication format the ‘European Awareness Days’ (EADs) - which has been recognized as a best practice by the Managing Partnership in Italy, and by other Institutions that are including EADs in their project. EUCivic will realize EADs in Cagliari, Firenze and Verona with the support and partnership of the Ministry of Education, University and Research. Within EADs in each city the main activities will be: 1) a “matinee” centred on the play “Europe, what a passion!” and addressed to engage the students, as protagonists, in a participated debate on EU; 2) an afternoon “deliberative workshop” involving academics, NGOs and civil society, Schools, local authorities - and possibly EU institutions representatives - in a constructive discussion about the democratic transformation of the EU. EUCivic will also include 3) a series of three webinars about professional training on the ECE open to all interested teachers; 4) a cycle of four webinars to discuss a new ECE program for the Italian secondary schools.
