The GLODEP (Global Development Policy) is a two-year multidisciplinary master’s program in development studies, with an economic background and a policy perspective. Four universities are involved in the program: Palacky University (Olomouc, Czech Republic), Fatih University (Istanbul, Turkey), the University of Auvergne (Clermont-Ferrand, France) and the University of Pavia (Pavia, Italy). The respective universities provide complementary courses that together build up a coherent program focused on development policies. The program is aimed at highly motivated students with a bachelor degree in social sciences and other relevant fields. The aim of the program is to prepare professionals in the field of development policy and practice. The program provides the students with the comprehensive knowledge and skills to analyze socio-economic and environmental issues related to developing countries and for the design and promotion of development policies at national, regional and international levels. The program has two defining features. First, it links the areas of development studies and development economics, offering insights from economics and other fields, such as environmental studies, geography and political science. Second, the applied character of the program is reflected in the course contents where the policy (project) dimension is emphasized. The program enables the graduates to work in higher-level positions in international organizations, non-governmental organizations, and in governments as well as businesses with a focus on sustainable economic and human development. Reflecting the character of the program, the graduates will be fit to work in teams of people with diverse professional experience and from a range of disciplinary backgrounds.The program consists of four semesters, with mobility between universities in the first three semesters and a research stay or internship in the fourth. To ensure the internal coherency of the program, the curriculum is fixed in the first two semesters and allows for specialization in the third. The aim of the first semester (Olomouc) is to provide all students with a broader perspective on development. The second semester (Istanbul) enhances the economic competences of the students and broadens their development studies portfolios. The third semester is spent either in Clermont-Ferrand or in Pavia, with specialization in various areas of development economics. In the fourth semester, the students conduct their research or internship in development organizations, preferably with one of the fifteen associated partners of the program, such as the University of Rwanda, the Catholic University of Madagascar, and the two largest national humanitarian and development aid organizations – People in Need (Czech) and Kimse Yok Mu (Turkish). Throughout the program, the students are encouraged to consider the context and cultural specificity, and the ethical aspects of development.
