eLSi - e-learning for Life Sciences internationalisation

eLSi was developed as an e-learning platform to support internationalisation of European life science SMEs into foreign markets. The life science healthcare sector has never been so global and there is an increasing need for SMEs of early international collaborations and entering high growth markets outside Europe. This requires a good understanding of the sector in the target countries and specific intercultural business skills. The eLSi Project with its new e-learning platform addressed these needs by developing a free interactive platform with online resources on 8 life science hot spots, offering an SME manager resources to develop an internationalisation strategy for: Australia, Brazil, China, India, Japan, South Korea, the Middle East, USA.Targeted were on the one hand SMEs that are at the early stage of their internationalisation strategy and want to know more about these markets or if they tackle a new region. On the other hand, also relevant information for SMEs were covered, on how to start your business, the negotiation process, business etiquette and language tips, if they are already active in a target region, but so far not fully successful. The second target group targeted were VETs that support internationalisation activities of SMEs and who either are culture trainers and lack sector-specific information or they are healthcare experts and benefit from sector specific culture training tools. For this, eLSi produced a second e-learning platform with a resource library for training providers, clusters or end-users who wish to download materials and include them in their training programmes. Each country package focussed on the topics of:1.) The current status of the life science industry2.) Life Science business culture and negotiation process3.) Business etiquette - Do's & Dont's4.) Starting your business5.) Language - basics & tipsMaterials provided include: spoken lectures, interviews, insight reports, weblinks, LS cluster maps, legal guidelines, further reading, quizzes.eLSi produced bite-sized, modular learning tools, which are mobile device friendly and free of charge (only a login is required). Comprehensive materials were developed download-friendly and the flexibility of the eLSi platforms makes it accessible to various stakeholders: pharma, medtech, biotech and healthcare managers, VETs, incl. business consultants, culture and language service providers, cluster/business support organisations.
