Eliminating the infrastructure barriers in Estonia - Latvia border areas (Reconstruction of the road Kilingi-Nõmme - Mazsalaca)

The project plans to solve the problem of limited accessibility of the border region by reconstructing and paving the road fromKillingi-Nõmme (Estonia) to Mazsalaca (Latvia).  This will significantly improve the situation for the local inhabitants, who currently suffer from the dust and bad road conditions, and will make the region more attractive and accessible for tourists and cargo carriers. Achievements: Traveling from Kilingi-Nõmme in Estonia to Mazalaca in Latvia will be much smoother from now on, as the road has been reconstructed within Estonia – Latvia Programme supported project Reconstruction of Road Kilingi-Nõmme – Mazalaca. The project aimed to solve the problem of limited accessibility of the border region by reconstructing and paving the road from Killingi-Nõmme to Mazsalaca, which was previously a gravel road.The official opening of the newly reconstructed road is on September 11, 2013 on the border between Estonia and Latvia, which this road crosses. The total length of the reconstructed road is 33,63 km, out of those 16,19 on the Estonian side and 17,44 on the Latvian side of the border. The reconstruction of road will significantly improve the situation for the local inhabitants, who suffered from the dust and bad road conditions, and will make the region more attractive and accessible for tourists and cargo carriers.
