The grant was used for arranging investments aimed at increasing flood protectionof the local populations at 19 Hungarian and 36 Ukrainian settlements. This isfundamental in a region which has seen several floods causing widespread damagein the last sixty years. Joint Hungarian-Ukrainian hydrological structures provide regularwater recharge, an increase in the quantity of habitats, and a better water supply for theexisting ones. They serve as foundations for joint environmental projects. Developmentsconnected to floods and inland waters help reduce heavy annual expenditure onprotection and reconditioning.
