Cardiac Arrests hit 700.000 people every year in the European Union. Only 5-10% of them are released from the hospital. Many more people would survive if they had access to an organized First Aid provision system. According to the cardiologists, the battle against a heart is won or lost within the first 3-5 minutes. After the end of this period of time, even if the heart recovers, there will be brain damage to the patient. It is estimated that the application of basic cardiopulmonary rejuvenation with the use of an automated external defibrillator in the first 1-2 minutes from the collapse of the patient, increases the survival rate from 5-10% to 60%. Great difference, great the number of people that would be able to live if a defibrillator was next to them. Defibrillator is a machine that provides electric current and in reality electrocutes the heart. An external defibrillator can save a person in the critical moments for his/her life, until an ambulance arrives. Aim of the project is the collection of knowledge, the enhancement of skills and the practical training of the participants in the sector of Fist Aid and more specifically in the sector of cardiopulmonary rejuvenation and the use of Automated External Defibrillator. Through the project, the participants will learn to identify the signs of a potential cardiac arrest, so that they are in position to handle such a situation properly, providing First Aid in conjunction with the automated external defibrillator. 15 First Aid Trainers of the Cyprus Red Cross will participate in the project, which will be implemented in Germany, in the organizations "CG AUSBILDUNG UND BERATUNG" and "Die Johanniter", that have huge big expertise in the sector of First Aid and Use of Automated External Defibrillators. The project will include two parts, one theoretical and one practical and will last 2 weeks.
