Project "Effective and qualitative learning process at school: development of pedagogical competencies and foreign language knowledge". Teacher’s pedagogical competence ensures efficient and high-quality learning process at school. In order to ensure the sustainable development of the school, it is necessary to participate in the project. This academic year the school’s theme is "World’s languages. The world of languages”. The this theme’s framework the school organized various exhibitions, held open classes, staged theatrical performances, which applied innovative methods. During the Winter holidays students had the opportunity to expand their knowledge in a winter camp in Germany, where they not only learned German, but also its history and culture. However, in order to prepare the summer camp, it is necessary to acquire innovative methods of teaching foreign languages and develop intercultural competence. The school participating in the project is the one, where German language has become the second most popular foreign language, learnt by 86% of the students. During the German language classes are introduced new methods of teaching and many new forms of learning, in order to draw attention and motivate students learning German language and culture of German-speaking countries. Therefore, the German language teacher needs the professional development abroad, which includes methodology of teaching languages and intercultural competencies. International Seminar for German language teachers in Austria is organized directly in a country where German is the native language, it will give the opportunity to get an insight into the German language diversity (Pluricentric Languages). At the seminar will be demonstrated methodological concepts applied by various groups, which is an important experience for Latvian teachers. This professional development will foster the use of the seminar materials during the German language lessons and extra-curricular activities. The seminar will contribute to the German language knowledge deepening, expand knowledge about other countries, about innovative methods of teaching the German language, intercultural competence, as well as develop communication skills. Acquired experience during the seminar workshops and exchange of knowledge between the teachers from European countries will be used during the learning process and the international projects. Value of the project is in the cooperation opportunities with multicultural participants and the language bearers outside the Latvian borders, in the natural language environment with diverse methodological technique variety and the best examples of practice implementation.
