Providing quality education to students is closely related to the continuous improvement of teaching professionals employed in school and achieving a European vision of the school.
The goals of our project are teachers to acquire knowledge, skills and competencies and to apply it in their work. The main objectives are:
• Studying of needs of our organization. Identification of deficits and orientation ot the training to the priorities of our school politic - effective learning and European integration.
• Acquiring main competencies associated with new and updated knowledge and skills that help to overcome the difficulties in the relationship with the students and to increase the efficiency of their work.
• Implementation of innovative methods and approaches to forming not only the volumes of knowledge but also developing skills , abilities, attitudes and willingness to learn .
• Intercultural knowledge: understanding the culture of the UK. Getting acquainted with other nationalities.
The participants in our project are three. Each one of them is a teacher in a different subject, but teaches the same students and has found similar difficulties in teaching process. All teachers are language experienced but need to improve their skills and to collaborate with teachers from other European countries to create educational partnerships and EU projects.
The first participant is a junior teacher with a Bachelor degree in history and geography and Master of Regional Development at the University of Veliko Tarnovo . She is currently studying for a postgraduate qualification in Primary School Education at Sofia University " St. Kliment Ohridski ". The teacher is young and ambitious and needs to acquire new techniques and the opportunity to discuss the factors that have an impact on her teaching.
The second participant is an English teacher. She has an experience in teaching and continually strives to enhance her skills. She has participated in training activities in the UK and Ireland. She has applied interactive methods in her classes but feels difficulties in speaking and needs more practice to improve this skill. She needs practice orientation how to motivate students to speak in class in English. The participant strives to know and apply advanced techniques to help students to feel a part of Europe.
The third participant in the project is a junior teacher in the afternoon classes. She is currently developing a new specialty-primary school education at the Thracian University of Stara Zagora. This is her first year of teaching. The teacher is young and has experience with the technique, but needs experience how new technologies can be integrated into student learning. This will help in the implementation of future international activities in on-line platform for students and teachers of different communities.
The activities that our organization plans are involving in the training activities of the project participants, respectively, in three areas:
• Content and language integrated l learning - practical ideas for the classes in humanities and arts.
• Developing oral fluency .
• Effective use of technology in teaching.
The activities are two weeks courses in the UK. They are aimed at learning new techniques and upgrade following skills:
• Linguistic competence : development of speaking skills .
• Pedagogical: how to be applied modern technologies in teaching and motivating students in the learning process .
• Interactive methods: student-centered teaching approaches.
• Sense of organization : management of learning activities into school community.
The results which we are expecting to achieve:
• Developing and updating of knowledge and skills of teachers for effective teaching and motivating students to learn and to feel European citizens.
• Getting to know the way of teaching in other countries. Exploring another culture including society, history, economics, cultural development, natural resources. Tolerance to other nations and the opportunity to go beyond national stereotypes.
•The participants will be more confident and more capable in understanding and communicating in English. By this way they will be able to collaborate in networking with other teachers and realize common activities in future.
The impact of our project will be directed to the participants, students, teachers and the school itself. It will be positive also for the other participants in the training activities as well as the organizer themselves.
The staffs that returns from the courses will improve their knowledge in the specific field, will be inspired and reflected by the other participants. This will be spread on further local and regional level through training of colleagues and students. The school will gain an European vision. Through common activities with foreign partners in on-line platforms the international dimension will be forgotten, thus we will develop and grow over through the years.
