Educational motivation of disadvantaged learners

The partners of the EMODILE project wanted to share, implement and evaluate, in cooperation with disadvantaged learners, the good practices (and avoid the pitfalls) of their applied methods for reaching and motivating learners from disadvantaged groups, and thus learn from each other's experiences and knowledge. The purpose was that each partner would not only gain a better practical insight into the own methods, but also receive a very concrete impetus to improve these methods and to implement, evaluate and disseminate new methods or methods already used by the other European partners. This project focused more particulary, on strategies and tools 1. to reach out to disadvantaged people, motivating them to become learners, and 2. to keep them motivated, preventing them from dropping out. In order to achieve this, we observed, discussed during MOBILITIES good practices (tools, methods, strategies) of the partners. Back home, we tried to implement some of these practices in the own context. Thus we tried to improve our existing practices (tools/methods/strategies) and developed new, more effective one's for motivating disadvantaged learners, adapted to their situation and needs.In addtition each partner also organized other LOCAL activities to investigate and to strenghten the motivation of our disadvantaged learners Disadvantaged learners themselves were involved during the processes of defining, implementing, evaluating and disseminating methods for reaching and motivating them. By involving learners we wanted to recognise their expertise as well strengthen their self-awareness and responsibility for their own learning and that of other disadvantaged learners. Finally the partnership has contributed to the European mobility of learners and staff in adult education, to the active co-operation between the European organizations involved, and to a cultural exchange within Europe.
