Educate, innovate, advocate: peers pave the way!
Date du début: 1 août 2016, Date de fin: 31 déc. 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

“Educate, innovate, advocate: peers pave the way!” is a project designed by 4motion, in close partnership with the European Peer Training Organisation (EPTO), to sustain grassroots youth-led peer education projects and advocate for peer education's unique impact on youth blossoming. The project also includes the sending of 1 European volunteer by 4motion who will contribute to its implementation and have an opportunity to evolve in a dynamic and growing host NGO (EPTO).The objectives of the project are the following:- To support and strengthen EPTOmember organisations through a new coaching programme;- To inspire and support grassroots peer education initiatives by and for young people;- To compile 20 years of expertise in peer education and create emulation; - To advocate for the impact of peer education on youth participation;- To strengthen the European network of 4motion and its partners in the field of peer education.Generally speaking, participants in this project are youth and youth leaders from 18 to 35 years-old. The 16 participants in the activity 1 will be selected through 4 partner organisations (2 young people and 2 youth workers per organisation); 40 former and current youth workers, peer trainers and peer educators who were involved in peer education (EPTO network of peer trainers) during the past 20 years will take part in activity 2. The European volunteer will ideally have an experience with peer education and/or non formal education. The project consists in 3 activities:- The first activity is a coaching module on peer education. Taking place within a wider 2-year project, it is a 5-day seminar where youth workers from partner organisations will be coached to support young people in the development of their own grassroots project at the local level. Based on a "Toolkit on quality peer education", it aims at partner organisations in supporting youth in the development and implementation of their own peer education projects and at increasing their impact at the local level. The whole process includes strong follow-up strategy and tools to measure impact on youth at the local level.- The second activity is a peer forum entitled "Lessons from the past, advocacy for the future". The peer forum is an annual 4-day seminar taking place in the EPTO network gathering young peer trainers and representatives of youth-serving organisations who are either currently implementing peer education projects or looking to do so. The general topic is peer education with a different focus each year. In 2016, the aim of the peer forum is to map 20 years of peer education history (EPTO's 20th anniversary) throughout Europe and bridge it with the future of peer education in Europe. It will gather several generations of peer trainers to retrace and map peer training initiatives from all over Europe in the past 20 years. Its main objective is to design an efficient advocacy strategy on the impact of peer education on youth empowerment and participation.- The third activity consists in sending 1 European Volunteer in Belgium, where she/he will support EPTO in the implementation of the project and get a concrete taste of the daily management of a Brussels-based European NGO. 4motion and EPTO will provide the volunteer with opportunities to discover several aspects of a European youth network , to develop professional skills and to utilize her/his experience on the labour market afterwards by translating it into tools (CV, Youth Pass, Europass). In terms of expected results, at the local level, the project will trigger grassroots youth-initiated and youth-led peer education projects in 4 European countries and reach hundreds of additional youth. At the national and European levels, it will allow 4motion to: design and standardise a new coaching module on peer education; compile 20 years of peer training, peer education and youth activism in Europe; produce advocacy material (videos, testimonies, mapping...); participate in the design of an advocacy strategy. All of this will enable 4motion to have more impact on its target group and partners and to gain credibility towards key governmental and institutional stakeholders. On the longer tem, the project will contribute to make peer education more recognized for its unique contribution to youth empowerment and to position 4motion as a key actor in the field.
