ECIL: The Development of a European Certificate in Intergenerational Learning

This project has piloted a collection of intergenerational life-long learning training approaches developed in the UK with five partners across Europe. Through this process the materials have been tested for wider European relevance. Different delivery mechanisms have been trialled and the materials redrafted into a distance learning package that can now be delivered throughout Europe and accredited in the UK.The objectives are to:(i) Undertake a robust trial of UK training materials with European partners;(ii) Explore the cultural dimensions of delivering training in different countries;(iii) Test the training against the vocational needs of professionals delivering intergenerational life-long learning programmes (ILLP);(iv) Demonstrate the efficiency of ILLP approaches to develop competences on learners;(v) Develop an accredited learning programme and associated resources to develop the competence of professionals delivering ILLP.The key target groups are:-- Professionals engaged in vocational education and training systems, institutions and practices.- Participants needing to gain skills and competences to improve new employability and participation in the labour market. There is a growing recognition of the need for intergenerational approaches to vocational learning that explore the skill sets, attitudes and competences of different cohorts of learners. However, there has been no systemic attempt to date to develop a structured, accredited approach to ILLP, particularly for the professional delivering these programmes.
