PROJET
TERMINÉ
Successive surveys on sexuality and recent epidemiological data, both in France and in Europe, still reveal the persistence of risky sexual behavior among young people, the increasing number of unwanted pregnancies interrupted before term and the number of STIs. They continue to demonstrate the significance of social gender relationships in the construction of emotional and sexual trajectories (violence against women, sexual discrimination... ).
During our prevention campaigns we have been struck by these questions. Our 3 associations; ALS, Sida'sos and Liga Portuguesa, have established a working partnership at a European level. A pilot experiment was conducted during a gathering of young French, Belgian and Portuguese people in April 2014 which led to them producing a set of awareness tools for their peers within the framework of education on sexuality and the prevention of STIs and HIV/AIDS. It was given the title "Skirt and Respect Spring" which has been conducted by our association ALS since 2009 in France. The main objective of this project is to promote relationships of respect, equality, diversity, solidarity and encourage responsible behavior among boys and girls in a movement towards education on sexuality, prevention of STIs and the reduction of the risks of transmission.
Strengthened by this success, our associations have decided to extend their collaboration on this project: an exchange on best practices and tools for education on sexuality which will take the form of an exchange year and training in education on sexuality for the professionals in our associations, followed by one year of implementation of a system for accompanying young people in Belgium and Portugal based on the French model. There will be a time set aside for a meeting of young people involved coming from all 3 countries, where they can present the prevention tools they have created and their experience of peer awareness in their country of origin.
This project, whose overall goal is to enable cooperation between professionals in education and training to promote the quality of teaching and the transmission of knowledge about sexual health to young people in Europe, is part of the public health priorities of our three countries, and the priorities of the European Commission in the field of education for young people in school and the development and transfer of innovative practices.
The methodology used is based on a process of sharing and exchange between professionals, peer education, and a complementary relationship between young people and the professionals working with them:
- Awareness materials and topics are selected and created by young people,
- The role of professionals is based on providing a suitable framework for the young people to reflect about gender relationships and issues for human sexuality, providing technical skills (project methodology, graphics, videos, sound recordings, leading debates, etc...) necessary to carry out the projects of the young people leading the debates with other young people using material they have created themselves (posters, short films, exhibitions, etc.).
A highlight will be a gathering of young people with projects, allowing them to present their productions, discuss the impact of their participation and encourage other young people, invited to the event, to become involved in an idea for a project.
The audiences for this exchange of good practice are young Europeans, whether or not they are school students, aged 15-30 years, and the professionals who accompany them in their daily care facilities.
The expected impact is on:
- A contribution to knowledge and a shared and common framework of information and concepts about education on sexuality to assess human sexuality for professionals in our associations,
- A better understanding of the issues and components of human sexuality among young people and socio-educational professionals, who meet with them on a daily basis,
- A better identification of situations involving a risk of sexual contamination (STIs) among young people,
- A change in social perceptions and gender stereotypes that potentially decrease sexist, racist or homophobic behavior, among young people,
- A positive experience of dialogue, exchange and cooperation between young people in Europe.
The expected results of the project are related to the production of awareness tools by young people, about sexual health and respect in gender relationships, such as posters, exhibitions, short films, slams, theatre, games ... which could potentially be disseminated and shared with other young people.
