e4VET - Enhancing, Empowering and Emphasizing E-learning in Vocational Education and Training

Within lifelong learning strategy implementation a set of documents such as Green paper on Innovation, Modernisation of Schools, VET Credit system, Key competences (e-learning and ICT competences as one among them) are being launched by European Commission. In spite of substantial investment in ICT, the level of e-learning acquisition is still insufficient for the efficient learning process. The skills and motivation of teachers in VET to apply ICT are still inadequate, although the role of ICT and e-learning has been underlined by current national reforms such as greater autonomy of VET schools, decentralisation of curriculum (e-modules) and individualised instruction. As the concrete response to the deficiencies identified above, the general aim of the “e4 VET Community Portal” project is to improve the ability of VET institutions to use ICT and strengthen the ICT competence of the following target groups: teachers of general and vocational subjects, mentors of practical training in schools and enterprises and adult education and training. The objectives of the project are: (1) to establish VET Community Portal (VET-CP) within the 40 members of Slovenian TTnet; (2) to develop guidance, templates and e-courses for teachers and mentors in VET; (3) to train 60 teachers, mentors of practical training in schools and enterprises in at least 4 VET sectors: electrical engineering and computer science, transport and logistics, economics and food technology; (4) to produce at least 120 items of e-learning materials for VET sectors identified; (5) to ensure the quality and sustainability of project outcomes by implementation into national system and further upgrading by means of EU Social Fund; The partnership structure comprises: high technology e-learning infrastructure (Jožef Stefan Institute, WiedzaNet, Nevron, University of Maribor), didactics and evaluation in e-learning (University of Leeds), the network of recipients of innovations (CPI and its TTnet), and pilot implementation and valorisation of project outcomes (Secondary School of Trade and Commerce and Technical School Centre Nova Gorica). The tangible outcomes are listed under “objectives of the project”. The main impact of the project is to raise the motivation of VET schools and teachers to use ICT, strengthen their competences by optimum access to e-learning materials, adopting it to pupils needs also by quicker response of the curricula to the economy and labour market demands.
