E.LEARNING UECOLABEL TOURISM

The European Union has established a standard "European Ecolabel" which comes in all sectors of the economy, including tourism. The EU Ecolabel for tourist accommodation service is a valid signal of environmental quality across the entire European Union. To receive the EU ecolabel, tourist accommodation services must meet a set of performance criteria. Established in 2003 (and extended in 2005 to campsites), dissemination of this eco-label in the tourism sector presents a mixed picture across countries of the European Union, some with "scalability" significant (the Italy, Ireland, Austria and France) other experiencing slower diffusion (Spain, Portugal, Greece). The penetration of ecolabel in tourism is both promising, but hampered by a number of constraints. In particular, the certified “ecolabel" requires tourist accommodation organizations they specifically train their staff and inform the public. It therefore appears essential on the one hand to facilitate access to training and on the other hand to answer the needs of information / public awareness with the target main concern of specific requirements related to the business-tourist hotel, particularly in terms of availability. To achieve this objective, the project aims, from the two main identified needs, develop tourist hosts small and medium-sized to better take into account the principles of sustainable development to bring them forward towards achieving the European Ecolabel through the use of distance learning tools available on a platform of e-Learning. Thus the proposed project aims to raise awareness that progresses are possible and accessible in some areas of Eco-label by bringing an aggressive outreach. Beyond the general interest that represents the fight for the preservation of the environment, this action should allow tourism professionals to enhance their business by differentiating themselves from competition by a strong signal to which customers are increasingly aware.
