This partnership of training providers, each with different levels of expertise, will develop and pilot a low-key approach to motivating SME's in the implementation of e-business methods, based upon informal study groups and coaching. The E-business in SME project will test the effectiveness of such an approach and will investigate whether training in e-business could be a potential growth area for VET providers. An initial state-of-the-art review exercise will take place to include the preparation of inventories of suitable training materials> following this initial review, the project will organise a training-of-trainers programme and a series of four-day study groups with SME managers and staff (reaching an estimated 200 companies in total). These events will be followed by a period of 3-4 months individual coaching of companies towards the implementation of their own e-business plan (this could include advice on leasing or purchasing software and/or e-support tools or could simply relate to the commitment towards additional computer training). Following a systematic evaluation of the pilot phase, a number of products will then be finalised to include: a training-of-trainers manual, a handbook for SME's and a final report outlining the training methodology, results and end recommendations. All products will be initially released in EN and further translated by partners into national languages (as required) for "free" access via the project website. Continued activity is expected beyond the project lifetime, with user fees expected to cover operating costs. Publicity will rely upon web marketing, project brochures and the release of articles to relevant professional journals. National workshops will be hosted to share "lessons learned" with individual entrepreneurs and VET providers. A final transnational conference is also planned in order to stimulate debate and demand with regard to increased training in e-business methods.
