As regularly emphasized by the EU institutions, the cultural sector serves as a catalyst for creativity. In other words, investing in culture fosters employment, innovation and competitiveness. Besides economic and societal implications of European law and cultural policy, the legal issues at stake are of prime importance. However, these aspects have so far neither been systematically taught nor been identified as areas of research by francophone experts in EU law.It is noticeable that also artist and cultural professionals are not familiar with these issues.My Chair’s project aims at filling these gaps, by increasing and disseminating knowledge on this topic to a large and diverse audience. It also encourages (future) culture professionals to seize European instruments and to take them as opportunities. The chosen methodology is resolutely inclusive. In addition to academic excellence and internationalization, it fosters openness to civil society.The Chair will develop innovative, specialized and interdisciplinary teachings, and will result in the realization of an handbook and digital tools. A university degree entitled "Law of Art and Culture", open to distance learning, will also be created for students and practitioners.The Chair will carry out major scientific events bringing together researchers and professionals from several countries and will also encourage PhD projects related to its theme. It will structure / organize a process of collective and sustainable research.Many events, both targeting and thought with civil society representatives, will be organized in France and abroad.A website will offer substantial content, subtitled in English. An intense communication of the chair’s activities will ensure the best exploitation and dissemination of its results.Based on the recognized expertise of the applicant, and supported by the team of the Institute for European and global studies, Alliance Europa, the Chair will be able to meet its goals.
