Drivers & Road Transport Instructors Vocational European Network
Date du début: 1 déc. 2011,

Road Tansport is undergoing rapid changes. The EU enlargement, the shortage of both professional truck drivers and qualified instructors, the increasing need for qualifications are placing new challenges on the road transport sector. The EU directive 2003/59/EC applied to all Member States as from 10 September 2009 for category C vehicles, aims to meet the needs of this sector in terms of professionalism and attractiveness. Consequently it makes periodic training (FCO) obligatory every five years to ensure that drivers respond to the need of the industry and maintain their employability. Focus is on a safer, greener, more fuel-efficient and smarter driving, legislative changes, driver's health, well-being and responsibilities in compliance with an EU sustainable transport policy. Under our on-going Transfer of innovation project - TOT to FCO, i.e. Training of Trainers to FCO - we are transferring training skills and knowledge intended to FCO instructors in Poland and Spain. The objective is to establish a pan-European qualitative level for instructors involved in training professional truck drivers. D.R.I.V.E.N. aims to promote TOI project results well beyond its lifetime in order to ensure its sustainability. We are seeking to capitalise on TOI development activities undertaken within the dissemination and exploitation stage such as the organisation of seminars for awareness building on TOT to FCO. The seminars, workshops, publications and the professional on-line community implemented within D.R.I.V.E.N. will aim to increase the recognition of TOT to FCO amongst a large target user group of private and public stakeholders in Europe and beyond. The ultimate objective is to provide a sustainable business model to be used by policy-makers across the EU in order to guarantee high level professionalism in road haulage transport training delivery. The project will benefit from the IRU's worldwide excellence and recognition in professional road transport training.
