The project entitled "The English Teachers' develpoment at the secondary school in Bogatynia is a guarantee of success of the school and more motivated students". It was created due to needs and objectives contained in the School European Development Plan. As the school situated on the boarders of the three countries, and co-operating with schools in the Czech Republic and Germany, we want to provide our students with the opportunity to learn the languages and cultures of other nations. We want to develop the skills necessary to exist in the modern world. To meet these requirements we need to raise the professional skills of the teaching staff, which is the main objective of this project. Its implementation will allow selected teachers to develop professionally, which in turn will have a positive impact on improving teaching and learning in our school. The school in Bogatynia intends to send two teachers of English for a specialist 2-week refresher course for overseas teachers, focusing on language, culture and methodology. They are the employees involved in the activities of the cooperation with partner schools in the Czech Republic and Germany and actively taking part in other projects carried out by the school. They mind their own professional development and want to improve their knowledge of the English language and other cultures. The two selected teachers are qualified and employed full-time with permanent contracts. They have the official certificates of the Matura examiners. The planned course, entitled "Modern British Culture", organized by British Study Centres in London, is aimed at secondary teachers who are interested in British culture and current issues and want to integrate contemporary British culture into their classrooms. During the course, participants will be exposed to a range of teaching practices and methodologies highlighting transferable teaching techniques how to deliver cultural lessons and how to adapt up-to-date authentic materials for use in the classroom. The course will cover a broad range of topics. These will include current political issues such as the regional independence and national identity (e.g. the Scottish independence referendum) and the growth of UKIP (a political party campaigning to exit the EU), the media in the UK, the role of the British monarchy in the twenty-first century, the British education system, the modern British family, class & social mobility. The proposed activities will take place in small groups and will integrate teachers from different countries of the European Union. The course will be interactive and discursive manner. The work forms to be used are mainly workshops, lectures, group work, work with the use of ICT. The participation in English teachers training course will enable the teachers to improve the knowledge of English language, which is a tool for work and communication while meetings with partner schools. The contact with lecturers and other international course participants will give an opportunity to integrate, learn more about the European cultures, to compare the knowledge of other nations with reality. Secondly, the teachers training course is closely related to teaching English in secondary schools. Learning new teaching methods and techniques will have a positive impact on the quality of English classes at school in Bogatynia. Thirdly, becoming more aware of contemporary issues in British life and culture gives an extraordinary inspiration to introduce interesting elements of knowledge of these countries into the curriculum in English language classes. By the end of the course the participants will have become more able to respond to their students' questions about all things British. New skills, ideas and teaching materials gained by participating in the teachers training course will contribute to improvement of the quality of work with challenging students, and strengthen teachers' self-esteem and self-confidence in terms of interpersonal communication. After completing the course, in the school library and on the school website there will be a data base for teaching materials, ideas for fun activities available to other teachers to be used in their lessons. Therefore, the participation of the two teachers of English is crucial to improve the quality of work and the success of the secondary school in Bogatynia.
