Our school (Collège Jean Rostand) is a secondary school located in the suburbs of Nantes. There are forty-three teachers for over six hundred pupils aged 10 to 15.Our Erasmus + project involves a group of eight teachers qualified in six subjects altogether. Our pupils come from very varied social and cultural backgrounds. Over the years it has led us to work on various projects bringing people together and meant for those children who could be considered less privileged. Interdisciplinary activities regularly take place in our school, enhancing culture, sports and citizenship so as to encourage respectful interaction and improve social skills. We feel the need to vary our teaching ways and we would like to generate a new wave of projects in our school. Facing the challenge of the growing social and cultural diversity within our community we feel a vital need to bring a greater number of teachers to work together on the creation of new teaching strategies in order to meet the needs of all our pupils.Part of the challenge awaiting us in tomorrow’s school consists in reinforcing their sense of belonging to a common culture and helping them become European citizens. The Erasmus + training programmes we have chosen will enable us to face this challenge in a more efficient way since they will help us improve our language and intercultural skills, learn about other European school systems from within, find new partner schools. Interdisciplinary work will be at the heart of our future projects.
