Diversification of teaching methods and subjects
Date du début: 1 juin 2014, Date de fin: 31 août 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Tjarnarskóli is a small private school in the center of Reykjavik. It is known for individual learning where each learner has his own curriculum. This means that kids that are capable of going further than their peers can do so as well as those that have special needs can learn at the level appropriate for them. With new technology teachers have an opportunity to engage with learners in a different way and are better equipped to tailor make curriculum for each individual in the classroom. We want to send two teachers to a seminar about using IT effectively. In the recent years our school has been going through a lot of changes. New national curriculum is to be introduced in all schools by 2015 with new emphasis on critical thinking and creativity to name a few. This means that our school has to upgrade some of it's functions. We have met these new challenges with open mind and see it as an opportunity to be at the forefront of those changes. One of the strategies to do so is to learn from other schools and integrate what they do well into our own. Also, we feel that we need to learn more about how to use IT in the school and most importantly teach our learners how to use it in their studies. To reach this aim we want to send 6 of our teachers to visit a school that has been incorporating new technologies and new thinking into their classrooms. We have recently started to teach philosophy in our school. We see it as a way for the kids to train critical thinking skills. The results of that have so far been very successful and we would really want to continue to evolve that. For this reason we want to send the teacher who started this to a seminar/course in P4C (philosophy for children). The longer term benefits of these trips will be that the school will be able to apply and use new technology more effectively. It will be able to fulfil the national curriculum concerning critical thinking skills. It will broaden the minds of the teachers and quicken their teaching methods.
