Disabled Individuals’ Success Stories Are Bringing Life in Education of Disabled Youngs

People with disabilities represent around one sixth of the overall EU working age population but their employment rate is comparatively low.The statistical data with regard to disabled people varies according different sources. According to the results of surveys carried out in 2001 at EU level, 14.5% of the population of the 15 Member States (with the exception of Sweden) of working age (16 to 64) reported some form of disability. A further point to note is that only 42% of people with disabilities are employed (compared to almost 65% of non-disabled people), and 52% of people with disabilities are economically inactive (compared to 28% of non-disabled people). The EU Lisbon Strategy for Growth and Jobs aims in particular to improve the comparatively low work participation rates of Europe's disabled people. EU’ objectives encourage opportunities of employment for the disabled. The main aim of our project is to increase employment oppurtunities of young disabled individuals through a better vocational guidance. In order to realize this objective, project partners will obtain the life stories of disabled individuals with different disabilities who are successful in their vocational career. Young disabled students having the oppurtunity to observe these successful models will have greater motivation and confidence in planning a vocational career. Vocational counselors will use these biographies to prepare a website which will show disabled individuals how to overcome the difficulties during the attainment of vocational career and will increase their belief for success. Project partners will also have an oppurtunity to meet successful disabled individuals during the visits.
