„Disable the label“ is a youth exchange that will take place in the city of Žilina from 28th of August till 6th of September 2014. 31 young participants with and without disabilities from Croatia, Ireland, Portugal, Turkey, Slovakia and Czech republic will meet, get to know each other, exchange ideas and experience trans-national group dynamics. We live in a world full of labels. Titles and adjectives can help make sense of our fast-paced cultures, but they can be harmful when applied to people, categorizing and limiting their place in our society. Many disadvantage people are challenged by the stereotypes and prejudice that result from the labels. Our aim is to illuminate the real people behind the labels . This project aim is to celebrate the unique abilities and perspectives of people who are labeled as different. The project will provide participants with the opportunity to explore equality and inclusion, using different artistic mediums such as handy craft, drama, dance and music. Participants will be provided with self-determining and creative freedom to examine inclusion, what it means, and will have space to share personal experiences in the field of inclusion. The project includes workshops, discussions and exchanges of experience among the participants. The exchange will last for 10 days, enough time for the participants to explore their role and place in local community, share possibilities and create opportunities for inclusion. We will work under the theme of inclusion in different workshops and we will use interactive methods in the context of non-formal education. With methods such as group work, creative thinking or debates, participants can share the different ways of how to become a part of community and how to increase mutual respect and acceptance. With this project we promote the inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities, as well as foster and strengthen positive feelings such as solidarity, respect and curiosity over difference and cultural diversity, cooperation and active participation. The aim of this project is to show everybody, including people with disabilities, that it is possible to include anybody. Participants will explore how different ideas of inclusion provide space for positive experiences and social change.
