Disability Awareness: A New Paths to develop Skills and Abilities

The Association Vivere Insieme Onlus promotes a European Training Course, titled “Disability Awareness: A New Paths to develop Skills and Abilities” in the field of Erasmus Plus, KA1 Mobility for Youth Workers - Programme Countries. The project is supports the development of youth workers and trainers actively working with young people with Disability by offering to the participants the opportunity to improve their skills and awareness of themes such as the promotion of Social Inclusion, Active Citizenship and participation to the labour market among a target group at high risk of social exclusion: young people with different intellectual disabilities.The project involves youth workers, youth leaders, volunteers, trainers and young people disadvantages from different organizations and different countries around Europe. The activities will take place in Nizza di Sicilia (Italy), from 07 to 12 November 2016 involving partners coming from Italy, Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Estonia, Slovakia, Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey and Poland, with 33 participants. The Training Course aims at addressing the following objectives: promoting a sense of European citizenship fulfilled through dialogue and work with people at risk of social exclusion; encouraging social cohesion; empowering the effort of different European organizations who are specialized in training and providing job opportunities for people with disabilities, especially, people with intellectual disabilities. Persons with disability are almost twice as likely to be inactive in the labour market as non-disabled people. The work program will schedule the following activities: energizers, presentation, press conference, evaluation, intercultural night, team building activities, Public workshop, working group, brainstorming, case study, open space, discussion and comparison, round table, sensibilization campaign, panel discussion and group building. The working methods envisaged are based on the principles of non-formal education which promotes the active learning, the permanent interaction among trainers and facilitators and the peer exchange of knowledge: both are based on the learning by doing and on the horizontal cooperation between participants, in order to ensure the individual personal and professional development. Furthermore this training course also offers the space for establishment of new network and cooperation for future international youth projects. A final product of the project will be the realization of a Final Recommendation report on non formal methodology that will be used as dissemination product to use during the work with young people with disability, and to present at local level by the partnership of the Project.
