After the Teachers' Board discussed and evaluated the needs of our school, we reached the conclusion that our staff needs training concerning group dynamics and social skills. At the same time there was a European orientation and an intent to cooperate with schools from other countries aiming at the development of our students' European identity. For this reason, we participated in an in-service staff training course (Key Action 1, Erasmus+) with the title "Group dynamics and social skills", held by the organisation European Bridges Consulting, in Ireland, from 25th July to 1st August 2015. It was based on experiential learning. Before, during and after the course there was theoretical and practical training. After the course we implemented the knowledge acquired in innovative school projects as well as in all parts of school life and of everyday teaching practice. At the same time, we had the chance to cooperate with European schools through the electronic platform eTwinning and to contribute to the internationalisation and European orientation of our school. The aim of the course was to give experience and basic information on group dynamics and the development of social skills and to give tools so as the teacher can observe and manage the group process and create better school and classroom climate. The course activities included action methods, group discussions, group analysis, pedagogical drama, sociodrama, cooperative learning, creative arts, workshops, presentations and theoretical background. After acquiring both theoretical and practical knowledge relevant to the topic, we aimed at the direct implementation of the new methods in the classroom, in an experiential way. This try was successful. Another successful aim was the improvement of both teachers' and students' language skills since English was the main language of work during the course as well as in the eTwinning project carried out in our school in cooperation with other European schools (Title of the project: " Finllada Traditional Croations" - dealing with traditional games). In addition, we managed to acquire useful knowledge and skills concerning the management and development of European programs. The three teachers who attended the course had previous experience in innovative projects, had a very good knowledge of the English language, felt the need to improve their competences in the relevant topic and were willing and experienced in working for the dissemination and diffusion of the results at an organizational, local, and national level. Concluding, our greatest aspiration was and still is to be able to take advantage of the dynamics of a group in order to contribute to the formation of pupils with high self-esteem and self-knowledge, who will develop positive attitudes in their future life as adults.
