Ahmet Cevdet Paşa Social Sciences High School is a public school located in a city called Aksaray, the golden gate of Cappadocia, in the center of Turkey. Our project has been formed to create opportunity to get our participants to attain innovative methods and techniques in teaching/learning process by variety of courses held in countries which have different educational systems and disseminating true results both in the learning process at the school, and national and international dimensions. Within the vision of our school the main aim is to train students in terms of academic skills considering national and international standards for five education years in which the initial year named preparatory class it is aimed to teach English intensively. As a second foreign language they are also taught German. For this reason, as the short term benefits, acquisition of 12 participants from those different courses will give the chance for self development for themselves and students directly, and opportunity to make the level of background knowledge higher in order to set up their careers. In our current life, acquisition of foreign language is vitally important to be distinguished in a career. As the long term benefits, teachers will have a wider point of view and students will get benefit from their language acquisition as a means of reaching the careers they want. Thus, our institution will have the opportunity to realize its own mission as well.
Our students are just studied an equally weighted curriculum unlike the other common high schools. After a five-year teaching period the students are especially led to the departments at universities such as Law, International Relations, Social Studies, Languages, Literature, History, Geography, Sociology, Psychology, Economy, Business Administration, Accountancy and so forth. To be distinctive individuals of the future, our students are to be educated effectively. What we would like to do with this project is to attain how to conduct further methods and techniques to improve all four skills in English Language. We are of the opinion that language is always the main concern for social sciences. That is to say, the international language English is directly or indirectly indispensable to almost all subjects we teach and study. Thus, we would like to enhance our knowledge for ourselves and those we have been teaching. We are willing to improve both productive and receptive skills of the students with the help of courses we intend to attend. Nevertheless, the students of ours need mostly oral fluency and accuracy in speaking skill. We believe that, we will have the opportunity to have various enjoyable classroom activities that will make students more confident, knowledgeable, willing, and ready for future expectations as individuals. We are planning to make 12 participants attend the courses abroad and to follow they are going to disseminate their experiences to the staff of our school and students. The participants are mostly foreign language teachers and partly the teachers of other branches, who are knowledgeable and interested in foreign languages, such as Turkish Language and Literature, Geography, History, Philosophy, Maths etc. The activities to be implemented during the project period are brainstorming with the foreign colleagues and demostrating the methods and techniques making students learn and improve language skills. We are going to keep in touch with our foreign colleagues constantly in order to exchange the brillant ideas upon teaching and future partnership for mobility projects in which the students can participate.
