As of the 2015/2016 academic year staff members of the Alternative Secondary School of Economics (AKG) have vowed to increase the incorporation of digital tools and techniques within a vertically expanding approach to their work in the classroom. Members of the faculty have therefore launched a preparation phase which includes regular training sessions as well as ongoing debate forums aimed at sharing classroom experiences in order to identify problem areas and successfully implemented methodologies. Our discussions have also revealed a desire among participants to compare our own experiences with those of other European secondary schools that have been applying digital teaching formats for a longer period of time. It is assumed that a closer study of tried and true methods will enable us to more effectively provide our students with modern and differentiated instruction in keeping with their current needs. At present, there are 9 colleagues actively participating in the project, some of whom are also taking English language courses in order to improve their language knowledge in preparation for professional exchanges. An additional 5 staff members are increasing their knowledge through job shadowing activities. Other participants are acquiring knowledge by observing lessons and engaging in guided interviews and discussions in order to familiarise themselves with everyday practice at partner institutions. They are keeping an on-line diary of their work so as to be able to share their experiences with one another in hindsight, after which their conclusions will be summarised and presented to the faculty at our institution in the form of a report designed to disseminate the main elements of the program. We are convinced that the shared experience resulting from visits to partner institutions will have a positive impact on our school. Colleagues participating in the program are not only motivated to train themselves further by becoming familiar with new methodologies, but the knowledge they share with our faculty will certainly raise the standard of education we offer to our students. From an organisational perspective, we can learn a great deal from visits to schools that have greater experience in the area of digital teaching in terms of promoting changes in lesson structure as well as transforming the physical learning spaces. Additional language improvement is essential for some colleagues so as to facilitate greater comprehension of relevant digital teaching tools, platforms and literature, not only to increase their skill in using these tools but also to enable them to share their knowledge with colleagues more effectively. Educators taking part in the project teach a wide variety of subjects ranging from English, German and Spanish to history, biology, maths and computer science. Our tender comprises the second stage of an ongoing process beginning in the second semester of the 2014/2015 academic year, in which preparations were launched to introduce digital teaching in the 7th grade in September 2015. Our current project aims to expand this process by including international experience so as to continue at a higher professional standard. We also intend to incorporate the practical experience gained by colleagues in their first year of digital teaching in addition to the knowledge gained by those engaging in job shadowing activities. Further training conducted within our institution in turn aims to provide the entire faculty with practical skills that can be used on an everyday basis in the classroom. Our long-term goal is to incorporate digital teaching as part of a solid and comprehensive strategy at all levels of our curriculum with the participation of the entire staff. Students and parents are essential contributors to the assessment of our experiences during the first year. Their feedback is an important facet of further planning and development with the aim of fostering continued improvement in the quality of instruction and learning as well as adaptation to changing needs. The results of this project will also be used with a view towards furthering this goal.
