digitalearth.eu: geomedia in schools
Date du début: 1 nov. 2010,

There are pockets of activity in using geo-media with geoinformation (GI) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Two Comenius projects supported some developments. Those involved are not networked, so the digitalearth.eu project will do this and be a place for new initiatives. An early focus will be the founding of a European Centre. This will be based at the Austrian Centre of Excellence, digital:earth:at, founded in 2009. A network of Centres, accredited by European associations, forms multipliers by working with teachers and trainers in the framework of their own situations.A digitalearth.eu infrastructure is developed to allow those involved to connect, communicate and produce an informed Community of Practice. An online catalogue of materials, courses, publications, links and best practice scenarios will be produced, along with a series of core publications. These keep teachers up-to-date with developments and resources.A "state of the art" publication and papers will offer opportunities for those doing action research to publish their work. The project addresses issues like teacher training standards, professional development and geomedia competences. It considers issues of data availability following the results of the EU INSPIRE initiative.digitalearth.eu establishes an infrastructure to identify, accredit and promote Centres of Excellence for geo-media in schools, Digitalearth offers increased visibility to organisations that are outstanding, it encourages innovation in learning and teaching approaches and quality rewarded.Widespread network dissemination takes place to reach as many relevant organisations as possible, including teacher associations, Ministries, academies and other relevant institutions. The public face of the network will be a Web site with core multilingual information. The network is expected to raise the profile of learning with digital geo-media. It encourages innovative practices and rewards organisations and individuals displaying 'excellence'.
