Digital Competence and Migrant Integration for Smart, Sustainable and Inclusive Development
Date du début: 1 févr. 2012,

Digital and diverse are two key words that describe the Europe of the 21st Century. The future of Europe will be multi-ethnic and digital and supporting the integration of migrants and the development of digital competences of early-school leavers and low skilled workers are key priority objectives for nations and regions throughout Europe. Digital competence needs to be a priority in lifelong learning strategies, as ICT is becoming an increasingly important tool for leisure, learning and work in all fields and strategies need to answer to the growing need for advanced digital competence for all jobs and for all learners. Currently, the concept of digital competence is re-shaped by the emergence and use of new social computing tools, which give rise to new skills related to collaboration, sharing, openness, reflection, identity formation and also to challenges such as quality of information, trust, liability, privacy and security. However, as technologies and their usages evolve, new skills and competences arise with them. Digital competence approaches should therefore be dynamic and regularly revisited. Due to a number of circumstances - income inequalities between countries, processes of economic integration and labour market shortages in host countries - immigration will remain an important and growing feature in all European countries. The reality is that emigration and immigration have become a 'normal' part of life in Europe. The choice for Member States moving forward is not whether to stop immigration, but how to channel it to its own advantage and enhance integration in host countries. The main aim of the FutEur project is “to support smart, sustainable and inclusive growth through the provision of best practice examples for the development of digital competence and the integration of migrant communities”.
