The VHB ZONE Project Development of Baltic Tourist Network in Via Hanseatica Development Zone was launched in 2004 to address tourism development in all administrative districts surrounding the E77 – A3 road spanning from Panemune in South-West Lithuania to Narva in North-East Estonia (688km).The project concentrated on tourism development in the designated rural areas of Eastern Estonia, Central Latvia and Western Lithuania. The project included the build-up of a strong welcoming tourism infrastructure and relevant marketing actions to attract visitors beyond the Baltic capitals of Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius into those areas rich in genuine Baltic culture and nature.After a number of researches and studies, and common concept identification together with common visual identity VIA HANSEATICA new transnational tourism arte/product Via Hanseatica: Crossroads for Baltic Nature and Culture was established and followed by creation of 2007-2017 Strategic Development Plan and 2007-2010 Marketing Plan upon which the tourism development actions of the next three to ten years will be based.In addition new web-page with integrated interactive tourism maps directed to interested tourist launched in the beginning of 2007. The web-page provides information about Via Hanseatica in Baltics, places to visit, location and interactive forum to enable information exchange and experience sharing. Information about new web-page will be made available through public channels.The partnership of the project is formed form public development agencies and municipalities located in Via Hanseatica Development Zone in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, providing excellent opportunities for benefits raising form networking and long-term planning. The lead partner for the project is the South Estonian Tourism Foundation, having experience in building up networks and structures for regional tourism development.To ensure sustainable development of both whole VH territory and its products key regional partners have signed Framework Cooperation Agreement setting down responsibilities and financing schemes of actions. This has lead also to establishment of cooperation on governmental level and expansion of Via Hanseatica to its original volume including also Russia, Poland and Germany.
