Development of a technology transfer centre for fruit production (FruitTechCentre)
Date du début: 28 févr. 2010, Date de fin: 28 févr. 2012 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Fruit growing is a promising traditional branch of Latvian and Lithuanian economy. But, for results to be good, it requires precise application of growing, storage and processing technologies. The major part of commercial orchards in both countries is concentrated in the Programme-supported regions. However, prior to the implementation of the project, there were no consulting services for fruit growers in neither of countries.Project objective is to provide sustainable development of fruit gardening in supported regions by turning over the newest technologies developed and tested at research institutions to the producers. The primary goal of the Latvia State Institute of Fruit-Growing and the Institute of Horticulture under the Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture & Forestry, the project partners, was to establish a joint Technology Transfer Centre for developing and testing fruit growing, storage and processing technologies for new strains of fruit.Project partners have developed demo version of free on-line tools for technology and knowledge transfer (www.fruittechcentre.eu), booklets and leaflets about cultivars, crop health, nutrition and use, recipes, technologies and principles of fruit tree canopy training, etc. In addition, project partners offer training, seminars, study trips, consulting and support to regions’ fruit-growers, varying depending on their competence and geographical location, e.g., fruit growers from the Lithuanian border region can go for consultation to Dobele on the Latvian side, while their Latvian counterparts can expect the same treatment in Lithuania.
