Development of a Comprehensive Training Course for Assessing Risk at the Workplace

The project targets training in risk awareness and risk prevention for employers and employees in SMEs and for the self-employed. A risk assessment-training course for a range of economic sectors will be developed for computer-based delivery. The course will focus on best practices and compliance with European standards. It will provide an integrated high quality product to employees who often do not have access to adequate training. In this regard the course should help to reduce workplace accidents. The proposed training course will consist of eleven modules. The first will provide basic knowledge on issues related to safety, risk assessment and occupational health, and will present easy to use information about EU legislation on safety in the workplace. The remaining ten modules will be specifically designed to meet the risk assessment needs of different economic sectors. The selection of sectors will be based upon the results of a survey of different economic sectors undertaken in each of the partner countries. Modules will present trainees with an accessible site safety and precautions programme. It is anticipated that each module will provide fifteen hours of training. In addition, trainees will be able to access relevant information from different modules, as required. Modules will be piloted in the partner countries and subsequently modified for delivery as a CD-Rom. All the project partners and participating organisations will be involved in project dissemination which will include the hosting of a dedicated project website, the release of training material in five languages, the production of project information booklets and the organisation of project workshops.
